OBJECTIVE:
Celebrate each student’s post-high school choice while affirming their journey, their values, and their commitment to what comes next whether that’s college, career, military, or other.
REQUIRED PREP:
Teacher: – Transform your room – Next Gen sessions should be different from typical classes — change the atmosphere of your classroom and get ready for your first session!
Opening Huddle (5 mins):
Goal: Conduct the cohort ritual and mood check.
Feel free to play music to generate energy and set the vibe!
- Opening Ritual: Conduct your opening ritual!
- Mood Check: Gather the students into a circle (standing or sitting – keep comfort in mind)!
Activity 1
Teacher & Mentors: Activity 1: Claiming Our Choices (Selection Celebration)
Mentors & Teacher:
- Set the tone: “Today is about naming your choice and owning it proudly.” Be intentional during this time and let the students know how monumental this moment is
- One by one, invite students to announce their post-high school plans.
- They can say the college they’ve committed to, the career path they’re exploring, military branch, a gap year plan, etc.
- Give each student a moment of celebration music, claps, certificate, photo at backdrop.
- For students who are still deciding, honor that too: “You are still on your journey and we’re proud of you for continuing to reflect and explore.”
Optional add-on: Alumni or guest speakers share a 5-minute reflection on how their post-high school path has evolved over time, and what they’ve learned about making meaningful choices.
Closing Huddle
- End by collectively performing your exit ritual!
- Remind students of the next session!
