OBJECTIVE:

Students review their academic standing and create action plan for continuous progression.

MATERIALS:

Writing utensils, Bingo sheets, Index Cards

REQUIRED PREP:

  • Transform your room
  • Next Gen sessions should be different from typical classes — change the atmosphere of your classroom and get ready for your first session!

Activity 1: 20 mins

Mentor: Before we get started for the day, let’s play a game, “Two Truths and a Lie” but there’s a twist…

  • Give each student an index card, have them write two truths and a lie. DO NOT write your name on the card.
  • Afterwards, collect the cards and shuffle them.
  • Give each student a card and have them guess who’s card it is and which statement is a lie.
  • If they guess correctly, the person who’s card it is should identify themselves.
  • Keep going until everyone has read their card.

It’s SENIOR YEAR! and it’s time for us to check in on our progression to graduation. Explain the rules of Graduation Track Bingo.

  • This will be an individual activity due to the information being used.
  • Please check off any/all boxes that have been completed.

Disburse Bingo sheet. As students are completing the sheet, walk around the room and assist students as needed. Feel free to have open dialogues but, with discretion as this activity may include sensitive information.

Activity 2:  20 mins

Teacher: Now that you know where you are on your road to graduation. Let’s create an action plan (2-3 action items) to keep you on track.

For those with unchecked boxes left, let’s create an action plan to complete those items and courses.

  • What courses are essential and need to be made up/retaken?
  • Make a list of classes in priority order.
  • Is there a teacher that you need to schedule office time with?

For students who have checked off all boxes, create a plan to stay on track.

  • What practices have you been using to stay on track?
  • Can you continue using them?

Use this time to allow students to share or ask questions:

  • How are you feeling about graduation?
  • Rate your feelings (1-5).

Closing - 5 mins

Closing Huddle:

  1. End by collectively performing your exit ritual!
  2. Students will need to bring a job posting/description to the next session.
  3. Remind students of the next session!
