Students will review their current graduation status and identify any areas of growth
REQUIRED PREP:
Transform your room – Next Gen sessions should be different from typical classes — change the atmosphere of your classroom and get ready for your first session!
Opening
Goal: Conduct the cohort ritual and mood check.
Opening Huddle: Feel free to play music to generate energy and set the vibe!
- Opening Ritual: Conduct your opening ritual!
- Mood Check: Gather the students into a circle (standing or sitting – keep comfort in mind)!
Activity 1: Senior Deadlines
Before we can get started on the senior plan, you have to finalize your application list! If someone was to ask you today where are you applying and when is your application due? Would you know??
- Students take out some paper and fold it in half.
- On the left side write out where you are applying.
- Example: Georgia State University, Atlanta Tech, Marine Corp
- On the right side write out your application deadline date.
- If you need a quick second look it up.
- Once your list is complete, swap lists with a cohort member and quiz each other on when the application is due.
- First person to get three wrong is OUT.
Activity 2: Pause, Reflect, Prioritize
Although colleges and employers will be looking at last year’s grades, this year’s grades will determine whether or not you actually graduate…so YES your grades still matter! Using the course checklist to determine if they are truly on track to graduate.
Discuss:
- Looking at this list, are you missing credits that you NEED?
- How are your current grades?
- Have you met with your school counselor to see if you need recovery?
- Are you at risk of not graduating on time?
